True 2Γ6 boards are 1.5" thick (nominal 2") and are stronger, better for spans, and more resistant to warping. 5/4Γ6 boards are 1" thick, lighter, and often used for composite decking profiles. For pressure-treated framing, always use actual 2Γ dimensional lumber. For the surface deck boards, both work β 5/4Γ6 is the most common choice.
